The third selection in the book-a-week reviews: The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide To Character Expression, by Angela Ackerman & Becca Puglisi
An excellent reference for external and internal emotional cues. I got hung up on overusing ‘he frowned’, ‘she scowled’, and realised that all the characters had the same expressions. The viewpoint characters didn’t really *feel* anything. This helped immensely, with lists of emotions and what they also lead to. Anger leads to fear, fear leads to hate, and hate leads to – you get the idea.
